I found out the news at dinner tonight that Michael Jackson died. I was in shock. You have to understand that I grew up with Thriller. I played that album over, and over and over again. I even had white glove earrings. Sick I know. What’s worse is that I still have the MJ doll. After I heard the news, I went straight to the basement to look for it. Sure enough, I found the doll in the same box as the Thriller album.

As soon as I heard the news, I sent a text to one of my friends from high school. Here is part of our conversation:
Me: Can you believe that MJ died?
Reese: I think we need to do the thriller dance for old times sake
Me: Oh my gosh! I remember that like it was yesterday.
Reese: Derek (her son) called and said they are showing it on MTV. He had never seen it. How sad is that?
Me: My kids think he is so weird.
Reese: They just don’t know him from the good ole days.
Me: True. I think I have his doll packed away. Funny.
Reese: Now that is funny. It might be worth a lot now.
Me: Do you remember my glove earrings?
Reese: Yes – Do you still have them?
Me: Nope
The early 80’s when that record was released were some of the best days of my life. I have great memories of times back then. Parties, bonfires and learning every single step of that dance with a group of my friends at Reese’s house. So with the passing of MJ, so goes the passing of an era for me. One that I will always remember.
Thank God it has passed.
